CHENNAI-ENNORE, August 22-24, 2024: The National Catechetical Meeting, organized by the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA), was held from August 22nd to 24th at the Don Bosco Animation Centre in Ennore. The event brought together 35 participants from various provinces across India, all united under the theme: "The Faith Experience in Catechesis."
Fr. Franco, the National Coordinator for Education to Faith, led the program with a focus on deepening the catechetical mission. The meeting was inaugurated on August 22nd with a keynote address by Fr. Provincial Bosco, who warmly welcomed the participants. He emphasized the significance of the gathering in the context of St. John Bosco's legacy as a catechist, stressing the importance of educating the young in faith.
Over the three days, attendees participated in 12 sessions featuring a range of resource persons, including Salesians and lay experts in catechesis. The sessions covered innovative methods of catechesis, such as using puppetry and magic as tools for faith education. The youth from Lourdes Shrine, Perambur, contributed by teaching action songs in catechism, adding a lively dimension to the program. Other notable sessions included Dr. Cynthia's discussion on family catechism, faith, and healing, as well as Professor Devanesan's exploration of the challenges in faith education.
The main resource persons - Fr. KM Jose, Fr. Jayapalan, Fr. Francis Vincent, Fr. A.T. James, and Fr. Antony Christy - were highly praised for their contributions, which were greatly appreciated by the participants.
The hospitality provided by the Don Bosco Animation Centre, under the leadership of Fr. Robert Vincent, was exceptional, ensuring that all attendees were well-cared for with excellent food and accommodations. The meeting concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Fr. Franco, who expressed deep gratitude to the Provincial of Chennai for generously hosting the event and covering all expenses.
The gathering concluded on August 24th with a final lunch, as participants departed with a sense of fulfilment and gratitude for the blessings received during this significant national meeting.
